Audi Q8 vs. Range Rover Sport

Audi Q8 Gets the Luxury Edge on Range Rover Sport

Both Audi Q8 and Range Rover Sport are thoroughly modern luxury crossover SUVs representing an ideal balance in the segment: one between style and no-compromise utility, powerful performance and drive-time comfort, distinctive premium feel and expert technological equipment. However, when it comes to details, it's Audi Q8 that pulls ahead. See what we mean here at Audi Temecula -- we've made comparing both models easy.

Audi Q8 vs. Range Rover Sport

Audi Q8 offers a clearer safety commitment than Range Rover Sport.

A variety of driver-assistance features come standard and available. They range from Audi side assist, Audi pre sense rear, rear cross-traffic assist, and vehicle exit warning to adaptive cruise control, traffic jam, intersection and turn assist systems, Audi active lane and emergency assist features, traffic sign recognition, and a top-view camera system with virtual 360 view support. Together, they help you maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, keep course, stay situationally aware, and prepare the cabin before an accident. Audi Q8 even receives a TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for crash resistance when outfitted with optional HD Matrix-design LED headlighting and high-beam assist.

Range Rover Sport might be similarly equipped, but to get there, you'll have to invest in Drive, Driver-Assist, and Park packages. Moreover, Range Rover Sport isn't rated for safety by the IIHS.

Audi Q8 offers more comfort features than Range Rover Sport, and sooner in its lineup.

Options span the gamut from a sunshade-equipped panoramic sunroof, contoured, heated and ventilated seating in Valcona leather, 18-way power seat adjustment, massage functionality, and memory for maintaining passenger settings.

Range Rover Sport makes semi-aniline and heated Windsor leather available, but only in top-tier Autobiography and SVR trims; there's no massage feature, and seats are only 14- to 16-way adjustable. You'll need to go to the top of the line Autobiography trim to get adjustment in 22 ways.

Audi Q8 offers more cargo space and better towing capabilities than Range Rover Sport.

With all rear seating collapsed, you can take advantage of up to 60.7 cubic feet of space, and, properly equipped, Audi Q8 can tow as much as 7,700 pounds. Range Rover Sport only provides up to 59.5 cubic feet and requires additional optional towing equipment. Plus, P400e models can only haul up to 5,511 pounds, and SVR models, 6,613 pounds. The takeaway: taking on trailerfuls is a lot easier, from a tent camper or ATV to a pair of dirt bikes or a boat.

Audi Q8 has tech advantages Range Rover Sport doesn't.

Both an Audi virtual cockpit and head-up display are available, letting you review critical driving metrics at a glance. MMI Navigation plus comes standard, complete with the ease of use of voice control. The SUV's MMI touch response infotainment system incorporates both a 10.1-inch upper and an 8.6-inch lower display, while an Audi smartphone interface with Apple Carplay and Android Auto support and an Audi phone box with a signal booster and wireless charger enables controlling your smartphone in-dash and keeping it energized. Finally, Bang & Olufsen 3D audio is optional, pumping a whopping 730 watts of power through 17 speakers, transforming any road mix into a travel anthem.

Range Rover Sport is comparably equipped, but many Audi tech features are unique, and neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto is supported.
