Audi e-tron vs Tesla Model X

Audi e-tron Takes on Tesla Model X: Which EV Goes the Extra Mile?

Is it time to make the switch from gas to all-electric, from the efficiency of the everyday hybrid car to the peace of mind of an EV? Perhaps you're doing it for eco-friendliness, to save on fuel costs, or just for the cutting-edge technologies, sky-high driving range, and handling enjoyment. Either way, you've got two excellent choices among new electric SUVs -- Audi e-tron and Tesla Model X. See which one goes further where it counts for Southern California here at our dealership in Temecula -- our experts have made comparing both models easy.

Audi e-tron vs. Tesla Model X

Audi e-tron is more capable, confident, and fun to drive than Tesla Model X.

It can achieve up to 402 horsepower thanks to a 95-kWh battery and two liquid-cooled motors, and its standard 414 pound-feet of torque can reach a blistering 490 pound-feet using boost technology. Tesla Model X, however, can only get up to 328 horsepower.

Audi e-tron can be charged more easily and in some cases more quickly than Tesla Model X.

You can get up to 80% of a charge in around 30 minutes with 150-kW DC fast charging, and it takes about 9 hours, a home charging capsule, and your everyday 240-volt/50-amp outlet to fully charge at home. You can even get up to 54 miles of range on as little as a 10-minute charge, and in total, the SUV's EPA-estimated cruising range is a stellar 204 miles. Plus, you get 1,000 free kilowatt-hours of charging for your first four years of ownership, you can charge at more than 16,000 Electrify America fast-charging stations across the US, and solar and wind energy sources are available without the need to buy or install additional equipment when you service with renewable energy providers like Arcadia Power.

Tesla Model X can charge via a standard 240-volt outlet, but it takes around 10 hours, and its total cruising range is 250 to 325 miles per EPA estimates, depending on trim. Moreover, charging is free, but only at a Tesla Supercharging Station.

Audi e-tron offers more comprehensive safety features than Tesla Model X.

Its inclusions are wraparound: they range from Audi pre sense rear and Audi pre sense city to Audi side assist, which features a vehicle exit warning and rear cross-traffic assist. Together, they help you navigate traffic, maintain safe distances, and steer clear of accidents, even assisting with preventative measures in-cabin before a possible crash. Your options in Tesla Model X are more limited: they only include automatic emergency brakes, forward-collision warning, blind-spot warning, stop sign recognition, and stoplight recognition.

Audi e-tron is more technologically advanced and seamlessly integrated than Tesla Model X.

An Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus digital instrument cluster, a massive 12.3 inches in size, displays critical metrics at a glance, while an MMI touch response infotainment system with an equally huge 10.1-inch display makes managing settings and functions a lot easier. An Audi smartphone interface with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support is available, extending connectivity to your smartphone, and you can keep the latter energized on the go thanks to an optional Audi wireless charging phone box with a signal boost. Finally, Amazon Alexa support dovetails with the skills of your favorite virtual assistant. You can control most features via the myAudi app, too. It lets you monitor vehicle status, offers comprehensive route guidance, can set geofence boundaries, and can locate your SUV and schedule service. You can even get to know it all the better via myAudi IQ video tutorials, a Q&A guidebook, digital owner's manual, and more.

Tesla Model X might feature a larger 17-inch touch-screen display, but it supports neither Apple nor Android phones, the jury's out on wireless charging and remote app support, and you won't find Alexa compatibility.

Audi e-tron features an interior that's a bit more luxurious than that in Tesla Model X.

Thanks to the soundproofing of optional dual-pane windows and the nearly silent running of both motors, you can look forward to a peaceful ride. Seats come upholstered in leather, and ventilated front seats are standard throughout the line. There's even a massage feature available, you can remotely control cabin climate, and a freshening air ionizer package is optional. Moreover, 57.0 cubic feet of maximum cargo space is available, and you can tow up to 4,000 pounds properly equipped.

There's no standard front-seat ventilation in Tesla Model X and no massaging option Though there are 88 cubic feet max for cargo, the second row doesn't fold, throwing a wrench into the storage mix, and you can tow only 3,500 pounds on 22-inch wheels. You'll need the 20-inch wheel option to reach 5,000 pounds.
